The 1lb 4oz Artic Char From Loch na Thull

It's been a late Spring here in North West Sutherland but in the last week to ten days of April a fair number of the lochs have started fishing, with insects beginning to put in an appearance. Fortunately most of the Scourie Hotel Waters are open but we will all be very relieved to see the end of the Foot and Mouth.

Lower Duart has proved to be the best loch during April with reports of some very large fish moving below the main inlet burn into the top loch.

David Smith and son caught and returned a nice bag of 31 fish on the 13th April, the best being 1lb 4oz.

Chris Hobson spent six days on Lower Duart with a total bag of 43 fish, best being 2lb off the burn.

Mr. Peacock and Mr. Munro had a very welcome surprise on Loch na Thull when a 1lb 4oz. Arctic Char came to the dry fly (a raft of small snails were evident and possibly brought the char to the surface).

The Campbell Holland party took in excess of 28 fish for their stay including one of 1lb 7oz.

The total recorded fish for the month of April was 117.

The signs are encouraging for May both on the fishing front and the F & M epidemic.
