A Fresh Loch Stack Salmon
A Nice Brace Of Brown Trout
A View Towards Ben Stack From The Salmon Beach
|
August was a very dry
month with many windless days. Fishing for Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon was very difficult
with water temperatures for most of the month into the sixties Fahrenheit (2 feet 6 inches
down). Fish went deep to find cooler water and some successful fishers resorted to sinking
lines and small flies to tempt dour fish. 258 Brown Trout were recorded in the fishing register with a selection of the best fish as follows - 3lb 8oz to Alan Webb from the Wye Loch and from Loch Stack Chris Cobb took a nice fish of 2lbs 12oz as well as Ian Hay 2lb 8 oz and Jack Broomhead 2lbs 1oz. A total of 125 Sea Trout/Finnock were caught and returned with the best being 2 of 3lbs each to Jack Broomhead, one of 3lbs to Billy Faulkner, one of 2lbs 8oz to Norman Brown and one of 2lbs 8oz to Chris Kirkbride. There was also a good bag of Sea Trout taken from Loch More, 6 fish for 11lbs with the best being 3lbs 8oz to the Miller/Kerr party. Salmon returns for August were poor with fish of 14lbs and 7lbs to Alan Maden, 6lbs 12 oz to Glen Wilson and 12lbs to Alastair Anderson. However, there appears to be a good number of fish in Loch Stack but at the moment but they are very difficult to tempt. As I write a number of fish are showing in the estuary waiting for a consistent flush of fresh water before they attempt to run any of the systems here. Tight Lines, Regards Patrick P.S Paul Twambley's 4lb 5oz Brownie is still the fish to beat for the Ian Hay Trophy and bottle of Malt !!!
