Another Loch Stack Salmon

August has been one of the driest months on record with thankfully some rain arriving on the 30th and 31st of the month. The water got very warm and de-oxygenated fish were very lethargic and deeper fishing tactics were required for the best results. The cooler mornings and evenings were the most productive times. A total of 473 brown trout were caught with individual bags of 81 trout taken on the 7th August by David Morgan and Ray Jones from Stalkers, they also took the best fishes of the month 1lb 9oz and 2lb 2oz off Mhicie on the 9th August.

Phil Edmonds, fishing one of the less of the fashionable beats named 'Boot', took a nice fish of 1lb 14oz on the 30th August.

The total number of Sea Trout/Finnock caught during the month was 78 - best fish 4lb 8oz to the Miller/Kerr party and 3lb 12oz to the East party. Dapping seemed to be the most successful method. All fish were returned.

Salmon fishing was slow with three caught for the month off Loch Stack, the best going to John Montgomery on the 31st August and weighed 11lb 12oz, other fish were 5lb 13oz to Mr. Woosey and 4lb 8oz to Mr. Brown all off Loch Stack.

Tight lines and best wishes

Patrick
