A view towards the Sea Pool from the bridge over the River Polla

The first 3 weeks of July were dry with very little rain, when rain came it helped the salmon and seatrout fishing on the rivers and lochs. Brown Trout fishing held up all month with temperatures down from normal. Fly hatches were haphazard particularly when the wind was north and northwest. When the wind settled westerly and south west fishing was good. A total of 1119 brown trout were recorded the best being 3lb 2oz and 3lb on the same day to Richard Franklin from Loch Domhain. Salmon fishing was fair if somewhat slow in the early part of the month. One salmon was caught off Loch Duart by Dr. Bowditch on the 29th July and weighed 6lb. Five salmon came off Loch Stack with two of 13lb 10oz and 11lb 12oz to Don Montgomery on 8th July and one of 8lb 8oz on the 18th. Chris Bagshaw caught her first salmon on the 20th, a silver beauty of 6lb. Geoff Curry took a 5lb 4oz fresh fish on his first day 22nd. Twelve salmon came off a local salmon river with most to the Franklin party and the best to Michael Wycherley at 9lb 12oz. The River Polla fished beautifully with 13 seatrout to guests rods for four days fishing on one beat, the best seatrout 4lb 8oz to Neil West and 3lb 8oz to Ian Hay. Loch Stack produced 151 seatrout/finnock - best fish 4lb to Jack Broomhead and a brace of 2lb 12oz and 2lb on the 12th July to Don Montgomery. Loch Duart produced 21 seatrout/finnock Garbet Mor produced 5 seatrout/finnock Loch na Thull produced 3 seatrout/finnock Loch More produced 7 seatrout/finnock. All seatrout/finnock were returned. Tight lines and best wishes Patrick
