A Fresh Salmon And Brown Trout Caught By Bill Motion On Loch Stack On Consecutive Drifts

First, an apology from the author of this site. I would normally have tried to update this report much sooner in the year. My name is Chris Cobb - some of you may know me from visits that I have made to Scourie.

Normally I try to update the Fishing Reports as soon as possible as I know that some Scourie regulars eagerly await their arrival on the site. However, in June/July I have not been very well which has prevented me from updating the site as much as I would like. Please do not feel too sorry for me though because I have just returned from my normal two weeks at Scourie in July which I thoroughly enjoyed as usual (Maybe I will get a mention in next month's report !)

On a more positive note. Thanks very much to those who contributed digital pictures and photos for this month. These are always gratefully received as I am sure that the site suffers from an excess of my own photography and I have to admit to fishing Loch Stack   for a good percentage of my time at Scourie.

As a result, I would encourage any contributions or comments from anyone interested in the site or Scourie in general. These can either be sent via e-mail to myself at ccobb@itronix.co.uk or to Patrick on the normal hotel address of patrick@scourie-hotel.co.uk . I hope to enhance the site soon although my fishing exploits may get in the way for a while ! However, in the meantime I will endeavour to update the reports as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience. Enough of my ramblings - now the report  that you came here for !

June provided its usual mixed bag of weather but on the whole the fishing was reasonable and some good returns came in. Salmon and Sea Trout are now beginning to come into Stack and the other migratory fishing beats in good numbers. The usual crop of large brownies are being caught on the Trout Lochs.

The Ian Hay Challenge Cup, awarded to the guest who catches the largest Brown Trout from Hotel Waters, is in operation plus a bottle of malt. The front runner at the moment is Paul Twambley with a superb fish of 4lb.5oz. caught on the Mid Chain beat (the exact loch is being kept quiet by the Williams Party - although I have a shrewd idea - however my lips are sealed.

There is still bags of time left for larger fish to challenge 'Paul's Big-un'. Other notable fish were 1 x 3lb brute to Peter Williams off Sedgewick Beat: 1 x 3lb 10oz to Bill Motion off Stack; 1 x 2lb 11oz to grace Stevens off Freagairt beat.

Vince Kerr took a magnificent bag of 4 fish total weight 6lb 15oz which included 1 of 2lb 3oz 1 at 2lb 1 at 1lb 8oz and 1 at 1lb 4oz, these came off the Crocach Hill Lochs.

Not all brown trout are recorded in the fishing book, however 482 were, plus 16 Sea Trout, the best being 2lb 8oz to Alastair Anderson, his sister Sue Bourne took a 2lb Sea Trout, both fish were returned 1 came off Garbaid Mor and 1 off Stack.

The salmon started to come of Stack with a 6lb 12oz tide fresh salmon to Colin Munro and a 4lb 14oz fresh fish to Bill Motion both fish came towards the end of the month. The salmon and Sea Trout appear to be entering the Loch in numbers now - although more rain is required.

Tight Lines,

Regards

Patrick
