A Good Bag Of Brown Trout
|
For much of June, the weather in this corner of the far North-west Highlands was more reminiscent of April rather than Summer. Nonetheless some good fish were taken. On June 10th, Vince Kerr landed a 3lb 9oz Brown Trout from Nan Uidh and the following day George Harrison had one of 3 lb 8 oz in Mnatha. On the 26th Mr Hansen also had one of 2lb 6oz in Finlayson's. On the 20th Mr Ormroyd tempted a 2lb 12oz trout from Mid Chain and on the 25th Mr Preston took one of 2lb 5oz from Eileanach. On the 27th Mr Hansen scored again with a 2lb 12oz fish from Dour and B. Taylor netted one of 3lb 2oz in Crocach. In addition there were a fair number of trout between 3 ¼ and 2lb. Hotel guests made only occasional forays to Loch Stack in June as it is still a little early for the loch to hold a significant head of Salmon or Sea Trout. However 6 Salmon were still landed from hotel boats. Mr Bernhill had two of 5 ½ lb each and Bill Motion also netted two. Mr Morris and Mr Philp also had two Salmon both of which were returned. Fifteen Salmon/Grilse were taken from the River Laxford during the same period indicating that the main runs are just beginning. Hotel boats also landed 13 Sea Trout/Finnock up to 1lb all of which were returned. At the end of the month a Sea Trout estimated at 5lbs was last following an extended aerial display ! |
