The Falls Pool On Lower Duart

June's weather conditions in North West Sutherland were quite reasonable from an angling point of view. However, much of the fourth week was 'lost' as an exceptional heatwave took hold.

Scourie Hotel reported 444 Brown Trout for the month, including 36 over 1lb. The best one was a superbly conditioned fish of 4lb 14oz which was caught on June 17th by Graham Williams on the Mid Chain Beat on a dry sedge.

Other Brown Trout highlights included one of 3lbs off Loch Stack  for Brian Taylor; a 2lb 9oz fish off Garbet Mor to Graham Williams again and another of 2lb from Mnatha for George Harrison.

There was a good run of heavyish Salmon on the Laxford System in mid to late June. Scourie guests landed two with Jeff East having one of 10lbs on the 19th.

The loch also produced a fish of 10lbs for Mr Nabarro on the 28th and a Lodge End boat was reported to have caught one of 18 ½lbs at the end of the month. Four fish averaging 14lbs were also taken from the Laxford.

The Fast party also had a successful day on Loch Dionard on the 16th with Brian Pitchers taking one of 9lbs and Mike Baudmeister taking one of 10lbs.

Hotel guests also caught 10 Sea Trout/Finnock (best 2 ½lbs) all of which were returned.
