John Gregory With His 3lb Brown Trout
Richard Sturgeon's Brown Trout
A Nice Hill Loch Brown Trout Caught By Colin Munro
|
The month has been very dry
and for the first few weeks and very hot. The Lochs are between 18" and 3 feet
down, which is very unusual for this time of the year. However as I file this report
it is raining !!During the month 284 brown trout were caught -
most were returned - 25 trout were over 1lb in weight, the best fish was a handsome 3lb
brownie and was caught by John Gregory on Eileanach, the next best was a beauty of 2lb
7oz. to Richard Sturgeon off Dour beat. Both of these fish were caught on the 18th
May.
The
Collinsons nabbed a nice brace from Hush 1 which totalled 2lb 5oz
Linda
Macallan landed her first fish, a beauty of 1lb from the river beat on Lower Duart -
congratulations Linda !
During the month 12 finnock were caught and returned off Clash Fearn and Lower Duart. This is very early especially in these low water conditions; and is a very positive start to the season, especially as we would not expect runs on these beats until late June or early July. The 'Ian Hay Challenge Cup' for the largest brownie caught by a hotel guest on hotel waters is now operational and a bottle of whisky also awaits the lucky winner. So far John Gregory is in pole position with his 3lb brown trout. Hopefully towards the middle to end of June we should get the first salmon off Stack and hopefully the promising season will continue on from last year for the Sea Trout. Tight Lines, Regards Patrick
