Rocky Point On Loch Stack

In the far North-West, September was largely a month of dry weather - in total contrast to the summer. The last fortnight was generally sunny and windless. Fish were fickle and difficult to catch with some anglers in the last 10 days preferring the beach to the lochs !

Conditions were hardly ideal for Loch Stack. 28 Sea Trout (to 4lb) were recorded and all returned. Four Salmon were also taken (heaviest 5 ½ lbs) falling to Mr Motley. Bob Jeavons also achieved his first Salmon on Stack with a fish of 4 ½ lbs from a lie off the Old Man. Scourie fishers have had a reasonable season on Stack with only seven fish required in October to beat the 1994 record (a good year).

The hotel's best Salmon of the month was taken by Dr Screaton from the bottom loch of the Lower Duart beat. Excluding Loch Stack, the best Sea Trout was a fish of 3 lbs taken from Loch Nam Ramh by Mr Harrison.

Given the time of year, the Trout lochs were only lightly fished with no specimen trout taken although there were a good number around the pound mark. Stalkers performed well as usual.
